Changing the world around us.

In my December 2nd post I talked about projection mapping, a technology that “paints” an object – usually a building – with 3D imagery so precise that it actually looks real. Now a Dutch furniture company has used the same technology to showcase its complete product line, all within one room.

Just think of the applications for this technology. Museums could take you backwards in time. Movie theatres could transport you to new worlds. Architects and real estate agents could show you what the view from a new condo would look like. Paint manufacturers could demonstrate color combinations.

This could even open up a new opportunity for product placement: a beer or liquor company could sponsor a projection mapping sequence on a nightclub wall, for instance. Or a fast food outlet could sponsor the half time show at an arena. Because, if there’s one thing we’re all good at, it’s changing our environment.
